Winnipeg, March 3 – The Canadian dollar was higher against its
American counterpart Tuesday morning, on the heels of a report about
the Canadian economy, which was generally positive.
At 8:45 CST Tuesday morning, the loonie was up 0.0049 of a cent
to US$0.8024 or US$1 = C$1.2462.
According to Statistics Canada, the economy grew at an annual
pace of 2.4 percent in the fourth quarter of 2014, higher than
analysts’ expectations.
Scotiabank said earnings in the three months ended Jan. 31 were
$1.73 billion or $1.35 per diluted share, up from $1.71 billion or
$1.32 in the comparable year-earlier period.
On the commodity markets the April crude contract in New York
rose US$0.50 to US$50.09 a barrel. May copper fell four cents to
US$2.67 a pound while the April gold contract fell $2.70 to
US$1,205.50 an ounce.
At 8:45 CST Tuesday morning, the TSX was up 29.71 points to
15,264.05.
