Canadian Dollar and Business Outlook: Loonie steady, oil rises

WINNIPEG – The Canadian dollar held mostly steady on Monday, while crude oil continues to rise due to high demand and trailing output.

As of 8:38 a.m. CDT, the loonie was at US$0.8079 or US$1=C$1.2378, compared to US$0.8078 or US$1=C$1.2379 on Friday.

Brent crude oil gained US$0.63 per barrel to US$85.49. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) jumped US$1.07 to US$83.35/barrel. Western Canadian Select (WCS) advanced US$0.89 to US$68.30/barrel.

The TSX/S&P Composite Index retreated 41.83 points to 20,886.27.

Gold decreased US$1.00 per ounce to US$1,766.62.
