Canadian Financial Close: Loonie, crude oil make gains

WINNIPEG – The Canadian dollar continued its ongoing rally on Thursday.

The loonie closed at US$0.7382 or US$1=C$1.3547, up from US$0.7372 or US$1=C$1.3565 on Wednesday. The United States Dollar Index was on the rebound, gaining 0.87 of a point at 110.57.

Crude oil prices added on to gains made yesterday. Brent crude oil jumped US$1.04 per barrel to US$96.73. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil gained US$0.86 at US$88.77/barrel. Meanwhile, Western Canadian Select (WCS) shed US$0.09/barrel to US$60.27.

The TSX/S&P Composite Index added 72.35 points to 19,352.11.

Gold declined US$3.30 at US$1,665.90 per ounce.

Ritchie Bros Auctioneers Inc. dn $ 0.41 at $ 86.43
