WINNIPEG, May 1 – The Canadian dollar closed nearly unchanged against the US dollar on Thursday, as traders were being cautious ahead of Friday’s US jobs data, analysts said.
The Canadian dollar closed at US$0.9123 or US$1=C$1.0961 on Thursday, which compares with Wednesday’s North American settlement of US$0.9124 or US$1=C$1.0960.
The Canadian dollar also saw little change as traders moved to the sidelines due to holidays in Europe and Asia, market watchers said.
Some downward pressure on the Canadian dollar came from the losses seen in crude oil and gold prices.
anadian bonds moved higher, following the gains seen in outside markets, including the US Treasurys, on Thursday, traders said.
The two-year bond yielded 1.067% late Thursday, from 1.078% late Wednesday. The 10-year bond yielded 2.366%, from 2.404%. Bond yields fall as their prices rise.
