Manitobans between ages 9 and 24 with an eye or ear for presentation and a germ of an agriculture-related idea can put their skills to the test in a new Keystone Agricultural Producers (KAP) contest with the help of the Manitoba Co-operator.
The “Share What You See in Agriculture” media competition will accept projects from Manitobans in two age categories (ages 9-15 and 16-24 as of Jan. 1, 2009) until Nov. 7 at 4 p.m.
Entrants (as individuals or teams, including 4-H clubs) may pick a medium of their choice, such as the Internet, video, film, public relations, promotional packages or any other approved by KAP in advance, to develop a project on one of five topic themes.

China seeks improved ties with Canada amid rising trade tensions
China called on Friday for steps to improve bilateral ties with Canada, saying there were no deep-seated conflicts of interest, following a spike in trade tensions with many of Beijing’s Western trade partners this year.
Participants can also decide their project approach in advance, be it factual, fiction, narrative, persuasion or opinion. The themes include:
- Agriculture and the environment
- Careers in agriculture
- Global or local?
- Evolution of agriculture
- Four seasons in agriculture
“Every Manitoban between the ages of 9 and 24 is eligible to enter, whether you’re from a small town or downtown,” KAP wrote in its promotion for the contest.
Judges will pick the three top entrants in each age category and invite participants to attend KAP’s annual meeting Jan. 28 to 30, 2009 in Winnipeg, where each participant will briefly present his, her or their project and explain its focus and why the particular media format was chosen to convey the information or opinions presented. The judging panel will then award first, second and third place in each age group, with top prizes of $500 (senior) and $400 (junior).
For more information about the competition, anyone interested can contact Lenore Kowalchuk at KAP at 204-697-1140 or by e-mail at [email protected]. The Co-operator is a project partner of KAP for this competition.
