Genetiporc, the hog genetics arm of Quebec’s Aliments Breton, plans to notch a “significant foothold” in the Prairie hog market by partnering with an Alberta hog production company.
Genetiporc announced recently that it will partner with Dynacrest Farms to run a 3,000-sow multiplication and gilt grow-out facility to supply Genetiporc’s Fertilis 25 replacement gilts.
Genetiporc, based at Saint-Bernard, about 45 km south of Quebec City, promotes Fertilis 25 genetics as producing high-quality slaughter pigs with better carcass attributes, while also offering sows with “excellent” milking ability.
The gilts are bound for Dynacrest barns and for other clients of the third member of the partnership, Verus Animal Health Alliance, a Calgary-based swine health management company.

The gilt operation will supply the 15,000 sows now under Verus programming, as well as other retail clients, the three companies said in a release.
Verus, under this agreement, will also provide management, nutrition and animal health support to Genetiporc’s other operations and “actively market and promote” Genetiporc’s products in Western Canada.
As a result of the partnership, the three companies said, Alberta’s Dyncacrest Farms gets a “superior source of swine genetics capable of producing more pigs with better carcasses at a lower cost.”
Genetiporc, meanwhile, gains “a significant foothold in the Western Canadian marketplace with the addition of 15,000 sows as well as a partner that has significant experience, a solid track record and a full understanding of the industry in Western Canada.”
And Verus gets to expand the scope of its business beyond Alberta and “will both complement and benefit from the considerable technical expertise within the Genetiporc organization.”
