Glacier FarmMedia MarketsFarm – While feed barley prices are generally flat across the Prairies, those for feed wheat are climbing, said Susanne Leclerc of Market Master Ltd. in Edmonton.
“Which is a shock. Demand (for barley) is still not higher, but what we have seen is it’s holding its own,” commented Leclerc, noting any demand for feed barley has been small amounts “covering places here and there.”
She said feed barley is turning downward. In the Edmonton area, picked up in the yard, she put it at C$5.80 per bushel while feed wheat fetched C$8.10/bu.

Increased demand for feed wheat
“We are seeing a lot of demand (for feed wheat) come into play and pricing on that has been going up,” Leclerc added.
Meanwhile, there isn’t a lot of demand for corn imported from the United States from what Leclerc has been able to gather from what she has seen and with speaking to other brokers.
A wild card right now are the tariffs U.S. President Donald Trump is set to announce on April 2 at 3 p.m. CDT. At the time of writing, details of what Trump’s levies will hit and by how much was unknown.
“I think everybody is sitting on pins and needles waiting to see what happens,” Leclerc commented, noting no one knows if feed grains will be tariffed.
Prairie Ag Hotwire
For the week ended April 1, Prairie Ag Hotwire found feed barley prices in Saskatchewan were down 30 cents at C$5.25 to C$5.30 per bushel delivered, but were higher in Alberta and Manitoba. Barley tacked on four cents in Alberta at C$4.99 to C$6.79/bu.del. and added 15 cents in Manitoba at C$4.91.
Feed wheat prices are also mixed, with the decline in Manitoba, of 23 cents at C$5 to C$6.69/bu.del. There was an eight-cent increase in Saskatchewan at C$7 to C$7.90/bu.del. with those in Alberta up 11 cents at C$6.74 to C$8.71.
