Funeral services will be held July 11 for Gus VanKampen, the founder of one of the largest and best-known greenhouse operations on Prince Edward Island.
VanKampen died in Charlottetown Wednesday at age 78.
According to the Charlottetown Guardian, VanKampen brought a greenhouse background from Holland to Canada in 1953 and bought a small Charlottetown greenhouse business in 1959, building it into a two-acre city landmark.
Sons William and Charlie now run the business, while daughter Jackalina works in neuroscience research on Parkinson’s disease, for which her father was diagnosed about 25 years ago, Guardian reporter Tim Day wrote.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Christian Reformed Church, 153 Mount Edward Road in Charlottetown.
The family has asked for memorial donations to be made to Parkinson Society Canada.
