Saskatchewan farmer and rancher groups looking to evaluate and demonstrate new practices and technologies at the local level can now pick up funding to do so.
The provincial and federal governments on Wednesday announced a 2009-10 budget of about $800,000 for a program titled Agricultural Demonstration of Practices and Technology (ADOPT).
Producers can then attend ADOPT-funded demonstrations and assess the merit of adapting these new practices and technologies in their farming operation, the province said.
“This program will ensure that Saskatchewan farmers have immediate access to innovative knowledge and techniques which will improve their bottom line,” federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz, a Saskatchewan MP, said in the province’s release.
Producer groups are eligible for funding of up to $10,000 per project to a maximum of $50,000 per year. The application deadline is July 31, 2009, for fall projects and January 1, 2010, for spring projects, the province said. Application forms are available by e-mail.
The program will be funded through the federal/provincial Growing Forward ag policy framework.
