Feed Grains: Barley bids dip across Prairies

WINNIPEG, Jan. 10 (CNS Canada) – Feed barley bids in
Alberta dropped nine cents overnight to a range of C$2.60-$3.59
a bushel. Bids in Saskatchewan fell by 30 cents and are now
going for C$2.43-$3.00 per bushel, according to the Prairie Ag
Hotwire.
Oat prices in Alberta increased by 10 cents over night and
are now going for C$2.40-$3.60 per bushel.
US corn exports came in at 429,000 tonnes for the week,
which was 55 percent less than the previous week.

Feed barley bids in the key cattle feeding area of
Lethbridge, Alberta were in the C$165 to C$170 per tonne range
as of January 6, according to the latest pricing information
from the provincial government. Feed wheat prices were somewhat
higher, coming in at approximately C$185 per tonne.
CORN futures in Chicago ended one cent lower on Tuesday.
Traders positioned themselves ahead of the release of a major
report from the USDA on Thursday. Brazil’s agricultural arm
CONAB pegged the country’s corn production at 84.5 million
tonnes, which was slightly higher than the previous estimate of
83.8 million tonnes.
India is buying more wheat from Ukraine these days.
According to UKAgroConsult, during the first half of the current
marketing year, India actually bought more wheat from Ukraine
than Egypt, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Thailand.
According to the Department of Agricultural and Consumer
Economics at the University of Iowa, China imported 179 million
gallons of ethanol in 2016 (through to the end of November)
which far exceeded the 73.8 million gallons it took in the year
before. There are ideas though China could raise tariffs if
trade problems with the incoming US administration materialize.
