Feed Grains: French wheat sellers undercutting Russia

Winnipeg – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian
and world feed grains markets on Thursday, February 23.
Prices for oats in Saskatchewan rose one cent overnight,
according to the latest information from the Prairie Ag Hotwire.
Supplies are now going for C$2.60-$2.83 per bushel.
Feed barley in Saskatchewan fell 10 cents on the week and
is now priced at C$2.34-$2.70 per bushel.

Strength in the Russian rouble is causing headaches for
Russian grain farmers. According to a report on agrimoney, wheat
from France is becoming much more competitive with its Russian
counterpart. Higher freight costs have kept French wheat from
undercutting Russian offers so far, but that could change if the
rouble continues to rise.
Corn prices in Congo have spiked as a result of pest
problems. A spokesperson for the United Nations said on
Wednesday that armyworms have chewed their way through 63,000
hectares of corn in the southeastern portion of the country.
Feed barley bids in the key cattle feeding area of
Lethbridge, Alberta were in the C$155 to C$165 per tonne range
as of February 17, which were about two dollars weaker compared
to the previous week, according to the latest pricing
information from the provincial government. Feed wheat prices
were also a dollar or two lower, coming in at C$173 to C$182 per
tonne in Lethbridge.
Corn futures at the Chicago Board of Trade fell five cents
per bushel on Thursday, as fresh reports of growing production
prospects in Brazil weighed on the market.
