Feed Grains: IGC raises world grain forecast

WINNIPEG, April 28 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world feed grains markets on Thursday, April 28.

– CBOT corn futures were stronger on Thursday, boosted by solid weekly export demand. The July contract was up 6.50 cents at US$3.9125 per bushel.

– The USDA reported weekly old crop US corn sales of 2.1 million tonnes, which was the largest weekly total of the crop-year-to-date.

– The International Grains Council raised its world grain production forecast tor 2016/17 to 2.006 billion, which was up by 9 million tonnes from the March report.

– Ukraine’s corn crop was 53% seeded as of April 27, running well ahead of the previous year’s pace, according to a report from UkrAgroConsult. Early spring grains, which include barley, were 99% seeded.

– Feed barley bids in the key cattle feeding area of Lethbridge, Alberta were in the C$208 to C$218 per tonne area as of April 22 which was up at the top end but also down at the low end, according to provincial reports. Feed wheat prices were in the C$235 to C$240 range, which was relatively steady.
