Feed Grains: Oat prices jump on Prairies

WINNIPEG, Dec. 20 (CNS Canada) – Delivered elevator prices for oats jumped overnight on the Prairies. Bids rose 15 cents in Saskatchewan and are now going for C$2.65 to C$2.92 per bushel while in Manitoba they increased by 16 cents to come in at C$2.90 to C$3.34.
Feed wheat in Saskatchewan is up two pennies on the week, according to the Prairie Ag Hotwire.
Wheat crops in the European Union could be vulnerable to winterkill this year, agronomists with the EU said.
Russia’s position in the lucrative corn market is growing. Farmers in the country harvested over 15 million tonnes as of December 16. According to blackseagrain.net this would be roughly 10 percent more than last year.

Corn futures at the Chicago Board of Trade settled two to three cents lower on Monday, feeling pressure from a weaker soybean market, strength in the US dollar and some technical selling.

Lethbridge, Alberta were in the C$170 to C$175 per tonne range
as of December 16, which was the same as the previous week, according to the latest pricing information from the provincial government. Feed wheat prices were virtually the same, coming in at approximately C$190 per tonne in Lethbridge.
New data shows that Australia is exporting less wheat to Africa and the Middle East than it used to. The Weekly Times reports that Australia exported 885,000 tonnes of wheat to countries in Africa last season, which is about half the previous season. The report says many African countries have tuned to cheaper wheat coming from the Black Sea region instead. Lower freight rates are also said to be working against Australian exporters.
