Feed Grains: Rising ruble cutting into Russian wheat exports

WINNIPEG, October 21 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world feed grains markets on Friday, October 21.

– CBOT corn futures inched up one cent a bushel on Friday as traders adjusted positions before the weekend.
On the other side, Vietnam announced it is suspending imports of dried distillers’ grains until mid-December, which was bearish.

– According to a report by CHS Hedging, Russia’s wheat stockpile has increased by 33 per cent over last year. The report says strength in the ruble has slowed exports and allowed corn supplies to accumulate.

– New data from FranceAgriMer indicates the French corn harvest is nearly 40 percent complete. That is behind last year’s pace of 52 per cent complete.

– According to a report from the Saskatchewan government, snow and rain continue to delay the harvest. Spring wheat was 80 percent harvested in the province while barley was listed as being 87 percent complete.

– Feed barley bids in the key cattle feeding area of Lethbridge, Alberta were in the C$158 to C$170 per tonne
range as of October 17, which were roughly C$5-10 higher than the previous week. Feed wheat prices were in the C$180 to C$190 range, which was also about C$5-10 higher than the previous week.
