WINNIPEG, May 2 (CNS Canada) – US farmers in the top five barley producing states had seeded 32 per cent of the crop as of April 30, which was off both the year-ago and five-year-average levels of over 50 per cent, according to the latest weekly report from the USDA. Emergence was reported at 14 per cent, which compares with the previous year’s level of 27 per cent.
Oats seeding in the top nine oat growing states were farther along, at 67 per cent complete. That compares with the five-year average of 70 per cent.

The US corn crop was 34 per cent seeded as of April 30, which was in line with the five-year average, but nine points behind the year-ago level.
Feed barley bids in the key cattle feeding area of Lethbridge, Alberta were in the C$149 to C$157 per tonne range as of April 28, which were down slightly compared to the previous week, according to the latest pricing information from the provincial government. Top end feed wheat prices were up slightly, at C$180 to C$190 per tonne in Lethbridge.
