Pulses: Russian pea acreage on the rise

Winnipeg, January 17 – Prices for large kabuli chickpeas
(10 mm) in Western Canada (dressed product at plant) rose by 70
cents a tonne last week to an average bid of C$1,443 per tonne,
according to information from The Western Producer.
Feed peas are hanging steady at C$6.85 a bushel while
richlea lentils are going for 60 cents a pound.
Large kabuli chickpeas (10 mm) are locked in a range of 63
to 70 cents per pound.
According to information from APK-inform.com, the planted
area for peas in Russia is increasing. Acreage climbed by 1.1
million hectares in 2016, which is up 16 per cent from the year
before. Russian carry-over stocks are expected to hit 2.3
million tonnes. Turkey and India are the top buyers of Russian
peas.
Falling lentil prices in Bangladesh have helped bring down
the country’s inflation rate, according to a report on
asianews.network.com.
