- In scenes reminiscent of the Capitol Hill riot of Jan. 6, 2021, protests in Brasilia, Brazil turned violent on Sunday. The supporters of former far-right president Jair Bolsonaro stormed the Congress and Supreme Court buildings, as well as the presidential palace, spurred on by allegations the Brazilian election had been stolen by leftists. The attempted insurrection resulted in the deployment of additional security forces on Monday and President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva vowed to prosecute those responsible. Also, the Supreme Court suspended the Governor of Brasilia for 90 days for allegedly not better preparing security forces ahead of the planned weekend of protests.

- After 15 rounds of voting, Kevin McCarthy was elected the new Speaker of the United States House of Representatives on Saturday. The California Republican won over enough conservative holdouts to garner 216 votes to 212 for Democrat challenger Hakeem Jefferies. To gain the support of a handful of ultra-conservative Republicans, McCarthy reportedly agreed to allow a major rule change that would permit only a single representative to call a vote to remove the speaker. Besides controlling the House agenda, the speaker is also second in line to the U.S. President following the Vice-President.
- Farm equipment manufacturer John Deere agreed to allow U.S. farmers the right to fix their own equipment, according to a report. In a memorandum of understanding reached on Sunday between John Deere and the American Farm Bureau Federation, farmers can now resort to independent repair services provided neither divulge
