– In a report released by Statistics Canada on Monday, Canada’s manufacturing sales rose 2.6 per cent to C$63.1 billion in November. Sales of primary metal products jumped 5.8 per cent to a record-breaking C$5.8 billion, while petroleum and coal industry sales rose 3.7 per cent to C$7.2 billion, also a record. However, the floods in British Columbia during the month disrupted supply chains in Western Canada, affecting 28.1 per cent of Canadian manufacturing plants and resulting in C$372 million of lost sales during Nov. 2021.

– North Korea fired two suspected ballistic missiles four minutes apart on Monday, its fourth weapons launch this month, according to South Korean and Japanese officials. The missiles flew 380 kilometres before landing off North Korea’s northeast coast. The United States-Indo Pacific Command said the launch posed no threat to U.S. personnel, territory or its allies.
– Australia and New Zealand sent surveillance flights to look at the damage to Tonga brought on by the eruption of Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Ha’apai volcano over the weekend. The eruption triggered a tsunami and cut off phone and internet lines for the entire island. Telephone networks have since been restored, but the ash from the eruption has contaminated drinking water. Any aid sent to the island would most likely need to be quarantined, since Tonga is free of COVID-19 and personnel would be unlikely to disembark onto the island immediately.
