Global Markets: Canadian unemployment rate hits 40-year low

WINNIPEG, Jan. 5 (CNS Canada) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– Canada’s unemployment rate fell to its lowest level in more than four decades, hitting 5.7 per cent in December, according to Statistics Canada data going back to 1976.

– A massive winter storm that hit much of the U.S. Eastern Seaboard and Atlantic Canada continues to cause disruptions along the coast, with cold temperatures set to follow the blizzard.

– Canadian cabinet ministers are already in the U.S. this week to discuss trade issues and generate support for the North American Free Trade Agreement.
