WINNIPEG, Feb. 5, 2018 (CNS) – The following is a glance at the
news moving markets in Canada and globally.
Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd. has signed a deal to buy
part of Carillon Canada, which filed for court protection from
creditors last month. Under the deal, Fairfax will take control
of Carillon Canada’s facilities management business which
provides services to airports, commercial and retail properties,
defense facilities, health care facilities and oil, gas and
mining clients. Financial terms of the deal were not immediately

Computer chipmaker Broadcom Ltd. raised its offer to buy
its rival Qualcomm Inc. by 24 per cent to more than US$121
billion on Monday. In November Qualcomm rejected Broadcom’s bid
which had valued the company then at US$103 billion.
Apple users are reporting an issue with the iPhone X where
it stops them from answering calls. Users have reported when
they receive an incoming call on their iPhone X, the ringtone
will begin playing but the display will not turn on until after
six-to-eight seconds. The problem is solved temporarily with a
restart of the phone, but then returns after about 15 to 20
calls. Apple has said it is looking into these reports.
