Global Markets: Record-breaking rains hit Newfoundland

WINNIPEG, Nov. 25 (MarketsFarm) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– Record-breaking rain was reported in Newfoundland and Labrador this week, with over 165 millimetres of rain falling in the southwestern Newfoundland town of Channel-Port aux Basques in a 24 hour period and the area of Codroy Valley seeing 195.6 mm, according to Environment Canada. Washouts and road closures were reported across the province.

– A car bombing attack in Mogadishu, Somalia targeting a United Nations convoy killed at least eight people and injured 17 more, including students at a nearby school, according to reports. The group al-Shabab, which is linked to al-Qaeda, has claimed responsibility.

– A coal mining accident in Siberia has killed at least 11 minors, with dozens more still stuck underground, according to reports out of Russia. Rescue efforts were suspended early Thursday, with a high chance of explosion in the mine.
