– United States President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke for nearly an hour on Thursday as tensions grow over Russia’s military buildup on its own border with Ukraine. Biden stated once again that any aggression by Russia would be met with new sanctions. In response, Putin’s foreign affairs advisor Yuri Ashakov said that would be a “colossal mistake” with “grave consequences”. Last week, Russia tested hypersonic ballistic missiles from a frigate and a submarine. While analysts from the West question how advanced the missiles are, they concede the weapons can evade defenses.

– The Ontario government is delaying the start of school by two days to Jan. 5, it announced on Thursday. The province will also provide N95 masks for staff in schools and child care settings, as well as 3,000 HEPA filter units to school boards.
