WINNIPEG, January 30 – The following is a glance at the news moving markets globally.

– US consumer spending was higher in December, propped up in part by higher motor vehicle sales.

Last month US consumer spending rose by 0.5 per cent after a 0.2 per cent increase in November, reports out of the country say.

– American President Donald Trump banned immigration from seven majority Muslim countries, and ceased the Syrian refugee program, which has caused—but is not limited to—corporate criticism, reports say.

Representatives from Google, Microsoft, Apple and Uber have all expressed concern regarding the change.
