WINNIPEG, January 26 – The following is a glance at the news moving markets globally.
– US jobless claims in the week ending January 21 increased by 22,000 to a seasonally adjusted 259,000, according to reports out of the country on Thursday.
Market watchers say the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday may have impacted claims.
– Average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees were C$961 in November, up 0.8 per cent from both the previous month and November 2015, Statistics Canada said in a report on Thursday.
In general, changes in weekly earnings reflect a number of factors, including wage growth; changes in the composition of employment by industry, occupation and level of job experience; and average hours worked per week.
