Just over 1,000 head of cattle went through the ring this week at Virden, Man. Sixty per cent of those were feeders, 15 per cent fresh calves and 25 per cent butcher cattle. Local buyers took 40 per cent of the cattle, and the rest were split at 20 per cent each between buyers from the East, southern Alberta and U.S.
The market is very strong right now, especially for light cattle, and the trend looks to be positive. Sellers should strive to keep cattle clean, tag-free. Use straw, and watch for ringworm and lice with all this warm weather.
