Virden saw 500 cattle through the ring this week. Half of those were butcher cattle, and the remainder split evenly between fresh calves and feeders. Southern Alberta buyers purchased half the cattle, local buyers 30 per cent and the remaining 20 per cent went east.

Cows and bulls traded $10 lower due to large volumes across the west. Feeder numbers are slowing, but the market is strong. Looks like owning feeders in 2024 is going to be a great thing. Four to 500 lb. heifers and steers were both up $10. Calves from 500-800 lbs. were all up $5.
