Albert Rimke presents the Bob Gordon Memorial Over- all Grand Aggregate award to Heidi McFadden.

Congratulations to Frank and Andree McNeely, Stephanie and Rae Kopeechuk and Allan Marshall for being added to the Canadian Hereford Association Honour Roll

Frank and Andree McNeely started a purebred Hereford herd under Ottawa Valley Hereford Farms in 1974 near Navan, Ont. Alongside daughters Kerry and Jill, they showed cattle at numerous shows across Canada, including the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. Frank served as president of both the Ottawa Valley Hereford Club and Ontario Hereford Association. The McNeely family then became members of the Saskatchewan Hereford Association for nine years, and have been members of the Alberta Hereford Association since 2017.

In 1982, Allan Marshall purchased his first three cows and started AXA Farms near Hampton, N.B. Marshall has been a leader for the Hereford breed in the Maritimes, devoting time to the development of the Sale of the East and promoting Hereford genetics in numerous online sales that drew attention to the breed in Eastern Canada. Over the years, he has been an active member of the New Brunswick Hereford Club and Maritime Hereford Association and has heavily supported the Hereford junior program in the Maritimes.

Condolences to Dennis Johnston’s loved ones on his passing

Dennis Harry Johnston of Johnston Angus at Conquest, Sask., passed away on June 6, 2025, with family by his side….

Both Rae and Stephanie Kopeechuk came from mixed farms incorporating Hereford, Angus and Shorthorn cattle. After moving to their present farm site in 1984, they purchased their first Hereford cattle in 1993. Stephanie served as the secretary of the Manitoba Hereford Association for six years, and both she and Rae have helped organize Hereford events in Manitoba. Their program, RSK Farms, has been very successful in the show ring at events such as Agribition and Manitoba Ag Ex.

Congratulations as well to Ontario’s Heidi McFadden for winning the Bob Gordon Memorial Overall Grand Aggregate at Bonanza 2023 in P.E.I. (see photo at top).

Gordon was one of the Hereford breeders who initiated the formation of the Canadian Junior Hereford Association. Every year the Junior Hereford Association hosts their annual show, Bonanza, bringing youth together from across Canada. Since Gordon passed away seven years ago, the Bob Gordon Memorial Fund has sponsored the Overall Grand Aggregate Award. Gordon would be very proud of the knowledgeable, hard-working Junior Hereford members who have been awarded this prize.

Bonanza 2024 will be held in Brandon, Man.
