Survey Responses

Jennifer (Ontario):
What issues do you want to see federal politicians address?
AgriStability/support for agriculture; Supply management

In your opinion, what is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers?
Will the government support our quota programs/supply chain?

If you could ask any of the political leaders a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?
How much do you support our Canadian farmers regardless of their province?

Sander (Alberta):
What issues do you want to see federal politicians address?
Supply management

In your opinion, what is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers?
As a beef farmer I cannot compete for land against the chicken and dairy farmers in our area. Alberta dairy farmers get two and half times more for a litre of milk compared to the average American farmer. Dairy is so profitable that quota to milk one cow cost over $70,000. On top of that they also get a lower interest rates from banks because of the guaranteed monthly milk check. Supply management is a golden egg for dairy and chicken but at the expense of all other farmers in Alberta.

Vince (Ontario):
What issues do you want to see federal politicians address?
Trade and tariffs; Government spending/debt

In your opinion, what is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers?
Depends on what type of farm as every different kind have different issues and concerns.

If you could ask any of the political leaders a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?
I’d prefer to ask the prime minister about supply management, which is a form of tariff. Why do we believe a tariff, regardless of what you call it, is acceptable if we truly want free trade?

Ron (Ontario):
What issues do you want to see federal politicians address?
Trade and tariffs; AgriStability/support for agriculture; Capital gains tax rules; Government spending/debt; Carbon tax

In your opinion, what is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers?
Trade and Tariffs and capital gains tax are of the most important

If you could ask any of the political leaders a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?
I would ask Mark Carney if he feels the way he became P.M. was a democracy or a dictatorship.

Charles (Alberta):
What issues do you want to see federal politicians address?
Trade and tariffs; Government spending/debt; Carbon tax; Supply management

In your opinion, what is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers?
1. Why has the Canadian government put a tax on China’s EV’s imported by Canada. The retaliatory taxes put on our canola by China are hampering sales of our product to China. These retaliatory taxes need to be dropped immediately.
2. All forms of carbon tax need to be eliminated immediately.

Shelby (Alberta):
What issues do you want to see federal politicians address?
Trade and tariffs; Capital gains tax rules; Government spending/debt; Carbon tax

In your opinion, what is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers?
Input costs caused by dramatic inflation.

Erik (Alberta):
What issues do you want to see federal politicians address?
Trade and tariffs; Supply management

In your opinion, what is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers?
Our government securing foreign markets for our produce.

If you could ask any of the political leaders a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?
For Pierre Poilievre: What is the government doing to secure markets in other countries, since we can no longer trust the Americans? In addition, will the government reduce the rules for interprovincial trade and relax the rules of CFIA so we can sell our products to other Canadians?

Bernadette (Alberta):
What issues do you want to see federal politicians address?
Trade and tariffs; Capital gains tax rules; Government spending/debt; Carbon tax; Farm labour issues

In your opinion, what is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers?
What will be done to get huge tariffs lifted off of our products? When will the carbon tax end for good?

If you could ask any of the political leaders a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?
What will change or not change to ensure we can still access foreign workers during busy seasons? Will the capital gains tax be left alone or the amount raised given the fact that land values keep increasing? When will some agricultural practices be given credit for the carbon capturing they do? Ex: sustained grasslands and cover crops.

Ross (Alberta):
What issues do you want to see federal politicians address?
Trade and tariffs; Capital gains tax rules; Government spending/debt; Supply management

In your opinion, what is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers?
Tariffs and restrictions of free trade.

JoAnn (Alberta):
What issues do you want to see federal politicians address?
Trade and tariffs; Capital gains tax rules; Carbon tax; Broadband connectivity/infrastructure

In your opinion, what is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers?
Input costs keep rising as prices fluctuate. The beef industry is inter-related with the US an it has been good for both US and Canada but tariffs could decimate this industry.

If you could ask any of the political leaders a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?
I would ask Mark Carney: How do you intend to relate to Western Canadian agriculture when you have appointed someone from Nova Scotia to be Minister of Agriculture? Nothing you have said so far shows any understanding of the Western ranchers and farmers.

Randy (Saskatchewan):
What issues do you want to see federal politicians address?
Trade and tariffs; Capital gains tax rules; Government spending/debt; Carbon tax; Supply management

In your opinion, what is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers?
Diversifying trade and eliminate all tariffs. Do away with inflationary policies eg. Carbon tax

If you could ask any of the political leaders a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?
I would ask all politicians how do we get rid of corruption and insane regard for responsible spending and idiotic environment rules.

Mary (Alberta):
What issues do you want to see federal politicians address?
The annexation of Canada by the U.S.; Trade and tariffs

In your opinion, what is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers?
American political administration.

If you could ask any of the political leaders a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?
Will our country secede to USA?

Peter (Manitoba):
What issues do you want to see federal politicians address?
The annexation of Canada by the U.S.; Government spending/debt; Carbon tax

What is the most-pressing issue facing Canadian farmers?
As a younger farmer I’d like to see the removal of government subsidies such as crop insurance and the misuse of the corporate structure allowing the domination of larger farms which in a free market would be limited by poor years such as this potential upcoming one. It is impossible for new entrants into the industry if we never let the old guard fail.

If you could ask any of the political leaders a question, what would that question be and who would you ask?
Why do we allow so many poisonous substances in agriculture for food production when we have such an excess amount of food production anyways. Why poison our own population when excess calories are now the leading cause of disease, producing less is not a concern.
