Pioneer Weapons

‘In a pioneer country weapons often make the man. This was as true in the Canadian northwest as it was in the roaring turbulent days of the gold rush in Montana and later when the great cattle kingdoms flourished on the Cheyenne and Oregon ranges.
With the coming of the North West Mounted Police to the prairie country in 1874, the need for weapons for personal protection ceased to be of the same consideration as it was across the international line. But until the turn of the century and in some parts even later, men depended upon their weapons to provide the meat that was necessary to live. Today, most of those weapons are museum pieces.’
