Global Markets: India’s COVID-19 vaccine cleared for human trials

WINNIPEG, June 30 (MarketsFarm) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

As cases of COVID-19 continue to surge in countries around the world, an Indian vaccine has been approved for human trials. The Drug Controller General of India has approved Bharat Biotech’s COVID-19 vaccine Coxavin. Human clinical trials are expected to start in July. Over a dozen vaccines are currently being tested globally.

Toronto’s city council will consider a motion to make non-medical facial coverings required in public indoor spaces, based on recommendations from the city’s medical health officer. If adopted, the mandatory mask rule would be put in place next week. Masks and face coverings would also be required on public transit.

Palestinian farmers in the Jordan Valley are preparing for Israel to annex the area, which could begin as early as this week. The community will be cut off from the rest of the West Bank, impacting export routes and income streams. Jordan Valley is known as Palestine’s “breadbasket” and provides food for the West Bank.
