Homestead Highlights

‘The winter of 1911-12 saw gramophones and electric pianos playing Alexander’s Ragtime Band in Spokane, Washington, and patrons of the Orpheum Vaudeville heard semi-stout, well-fed females singing “Oh, You Beautiful Doll.” The Pantages was in full swing too, while farther down town was a burlesque show, mostly for men, where short-skirted females stepped lightly in scanty attire which would be feeble compared to the two-piece bathing suits and shorts seen on the streets today.’
