The Charolais Banner has been tracking the purebred Charolais female sale trends for 30 years. Last year saw the second-highest gross at nearly $7 million, and the second-highest average. There were 31 sales which had females in them and is the most sales since back in the 1990s. In total, the 959 lots averaged $7,195 and grossed $6,898,200.
“History shows us that strong female sales follow strong bull sales and the Charolais bull market has been great, with the Charcross calves still being the market-setter,” says Helge By, publisher of the Charolais Banner. The Banner Of Show Sires, or B.O.S.S. program, was developed in 1984 and is administered by the Charolais Banner. It is the only purebred publication that sponsors such a program. It was set up to track of the winnings of the Charolais animals in the show ring. The shows that receive B.O.S.S. designation are decided by the Charolais Banner and spread evenly across Canada. In the 39 years the B.O.S.S. program has been running, 228,815 points have been awarded.

The Charolais B.O.S.S. Female of the Year was BakerFarmsKokopopping Candy4K, owned by Baker Farms, Madoc, Ont., Loval Farms, Trent Hills, Ont., and Golden Oak Livestock, Bowden, Alta. The Canadian Charolais Association presents three scholarships each Agribition. Receiving the $1,500 Dale Norheim Memorial Scholarship last fall was Isabella Acorn, presented by general manager Craig Scott as well as Lee Norheim (Dale Norheim’s son). The recipients presented the two $1,000 scholarships were Abigail Tilleman and Jaren Letniak.
