AgGronomyTV: Soybean production on the Prairies

Justine Cornelsen with Brett Young Seeds talks about soybean production on the Prairies, how soybeans can benefit Sask. growers’ crop rotation plans, and what factors could see more soy acres grown in that province. (Recorded at Ag in Motion in July 2023)

AgGronomyTV: Technology to improve farming practices

Technology and innovation are key principles employed at Rutherford Farms near Grosse Isle, Man. But with all this data at a farmer’s fingertips, how can it be turned into action, and more importantly, what tools are needed to reach their goals? At a Manitoba 4R Day earlier this summer, Danielle Bérard, Innovation Farms manager with EMILI, spoke about how data and technology are being used at Rutherford Farms to help problem-solve and increase efficiency.

AGGronomyTV: The 4Rs and the environment

Nov 1 to 15: The federal government is asking farmers to implement voluntary targets to help reduce nitrous oxide emissions in crop production. Thankfully, there are ways to help growers accomplish this, not the least of which are implementing the 4R’s (right source, right rate, right time, and right place) when it comes to applying fertilizer to field crops. At the EMILI field day near Grosse Isle, Manitoba, this past summer, Mario Tenuta with the University of Manitoba spoke about the emissions reduction initiative, what’s missing on the Prairies when it comes to the 4Rs, and field research that showed the difference in nitrous oxide emissions between shallow- and deep-banded fertilizer in canola.
