A well-known conservation group is voicing its approval of the long-term environmental goals recently released by the Canadian Beef Advisors.
In a recent media release, Ducks Unlimited Canada congratulated the Canadian Beef Advisors for developing 10-year goals that address greenhouse gases, land use and biodiversity and animal care. The Canadian Beef Advisors include the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association, Canada Beef, Beef Cattle Research Council, Canadian Beef Breeds Council, Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (CRSB), Canadian Meat Council and National Cattle Feeders’ Association.

“Canadian beef farmers and ranchers are some of our greatest partners in conservation, and the CRSB’s commitment to preserve native grasslands and wetlands is one of the many reasons why we’re a proud and active member,” says Karla Guyn, CEO of Ducks Unlimited, in the release. “The CRSB is continually working to create a stronger beef industry, leading to greater protection of some of Canada’s most at-risk habitats.”
The release states that the new goals demonstrate the beef industry’s commitment to mitigating climate change, conserving biodiversity and sustainability. Ducks Unlimited hopes that by encouraging a “sustainable economy that values ecosystem services from grasslands,” environmentally important areas will be maintained and marginal cropland be converted back to pasture or hayland.
“The environmental stewardship provided by beef farmers and ranchers is important to water, wildlife and all Canadians,” says Guyn.
Ducks Unlimited is “proud to work with the Canadian beef industry to help achieve the market-based signals to show farmers and ranchers that sustainably managing our grasslands and wetlands is valued,” the release adds.
