Global Markets: 300 Turkish pilots sentenced to jail for life

Turkey has jailed over 300 pilots for life over a failed coup attempt to overthrow President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in 2016. Nearly 500 defendants were accused of attempting to overthrow the government from an airbase in the capital city. Over 250 people were killed, as soldiers commandeered war planes, helicopters, and tanks.

Hundreds of thousands of Indian farmers are marching to New Delhi in protest of new agriculture laws that will reportedly hurt their incomes, according to local farm groups. Analysts have said the new reforms introduced in September have the potential to significantly change Indian agriculture, as they make it easer to sell crops in other states. Producers are concerned the new measures will replace current price support regimes, giving large corporations more control of markets.

Bitcoin values plunged on Thursday, losing more than eight per cent due to a widespread selloff of digital assets. Concerns of tighter cryptocurrency regulations spurred the selloff, as Coinbase Inc. Chief Executive Officer Brian Armstrong tweeted a speculation that the United States is considering new laws that would undermine anonymity in digital transactions.
