Global Markets: California issues ‘stay at home’ order

– California has issued a ‘stay at home’ order on Thursday, restricting travel in the state of 40 million people indefinitely. The move came as the COVID-19 death toll in the United States hit 200 people, with 10,000 confirmed cases. Travel restrictions between the U.S. and Canadian border are set to go into effect today.

– World pollution levels have dropped as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting social distancing measures, according to data compiled by NASA and the European Space Agency using satellite imagery of China and Northern Italy.

– Daytime home internet use in Canada has seen a dramatic increase as employees that can attempt to temporarily work from home, say the country’s major internet suppliers. Bell reported a 60 per cent increase in traffic, according to a CBC report. The increased usage is anecdotally slowing some internet movement.
