Canadian National (CN) Rail and 4-H Canada announced the renewal of the 4-H Canada Leadership Excellence Awards of Distinction program during Canadian Western Agribition in Regina. The program offers scholarships and mentorship opportunities to 4-H members pursuing post-secondary education. Over the next four years, CN will commit $600,000 to the program.
Shannon Benner, CEO of 4-H Canada, says scholarships are awarded based on not only academics but community commitment and leadership. Each scholar receives a four-year, $5,000 scholarship. Scholars have also had a chance to work with interesting mentors, including an Olympian, the Speaker of the House, a sheep farmer from New Zealand and entrepreneur Brett Wilson.
The latest round of scholars will find out who their mentors are on January 31 in Saskatoon. Interested 4-H members can check 4-h-Canada.ca for applications, which open in the spring.
