‘The Corral’
By Guy Weadick, High River, Alta.
‘”To settle a controversy regarding chuckwagon races, can you help us out? A. says that chuckwagon races were first introduced at rodeos at Calgary. B. claims they were on programs at other shows before Calgary had them. If they were run at other places before Calgary, can you name them?”
B.B., Pincher Creek, Alta.
Chuckwagon races were presented at other locations before they were at Calgary. To name a few: Oklahoma City, Okla.; Cowboys’ Re-Union at Las Vegas, N. Mex.; Stamford, Texas, and the Roundup at Pendleton, Ore. But all were run under different rules than those now used at Calgary. Nothing but ranch horses were used and all wagons were fully equipped for range work, such as chuck box, branding irons, etc. etc.’
