After countless 4-H meetings and speeches near and far, and teaching cattle to lead, kids involved in the 4-H beef project finally have a chance to sell their steers.
Now those 4-H kids need your help. COVID-19 has put a stop to live auctions, and the beef kids are looking for other ways to sell their animals. Though virtual shows and online auctions will help, it’s not the same as we’ve had before.
As beef becomes scarce and pricey in grocery stores, now is the time for us as beef producers to let our friends in the city know that there is another option for buying beef. They can save a ton of money buying from a 4-H kid, and more importantly build a rural bond that lasts a lifetime.

2020 CCIA board of directors
A recently held election brought a few changes and a few returning faces to the Canadian Cattle Identification Agency (CCIA) board of directors.
Pat Hayes (Canadian Cattlemen’s Association) was re-elected as chair. Lyle Miller (Alberta Cattle Feeders’ Association) was re-elected as vice-chair, as was Howard Bekkering (Alberta Beef Producers) as finance chair.
Additional re-elections to the executive committee include Ken Perlich (Livestock Markets Association of Canada) as well as previous member Doug Sawyer (Canadian Cattlemen’s Association).
The board welcomes new representation from Olivier Lavigne-Lacroix (Canadian Meat Council), replacing Dan Gillis who had been one of two Canadian Meat Council representatives since 2012. Mark Elford completed his year as past president.
