‘When raging blizzards sweep devilish fury across the scantily sheltered plains of east central and southern Alberta, old timers are very apt to pull their chairs to the sides of roaring rosy-cheeked heaters and start recalling the hardships, comedies and tragedies of pioneer days. Among the stories they are liable to tell is one that is often repeated, the story of a long ago blizzard and three men who faced death in its blinding, icy blast.’
